The Tailored Dog™ Story
 In 2004, five-year-old Puma, a Chow Chow and Golden Retriever mix, resided in an animal shelter. Aloof, a lion look-alike and survivor of a difficult youth, Puma was ultimately adopted by shelter volunteer Rita. With a rich blonde coat, warm brown eyes and a regal weight of 99 lbs., Puma has been mistaken for a lion and even a bear! Protecting her coat and eyes from the elements was a constant and, at times, seemingly impossible quest and was the inspiration for Tailored Dog™.
Tailored Dog™ raincoats, visors and cold weather apparel provide Puma with a wardrobe that fits and flatters her broad figure! The visors and hats assure her eyes are protected from sun and winter glare, and the rain and fleece coats keep her coat dry, warm and odor-free.
 Puma’s TV career was launched when a cameraman from the Chicago NBC affiliate saw her strolling past the studio in her leopard coat and put her on camera that day. Nowadays, Puma enjoys her twice-weekly morning television appearances on NBC 5 Chicago, as her wardrobe and fan base continue to grow!  Tailored Dog™ clothing is manufactured in the United States by the Chicago Association for Retarded Citizens (CARC), an organization that provides training and jobs for adults with developmental disabilities. Every order of Tailored Dog™ visors, raincoats, fleece coats and hats provides meaningful employment for the CARC client community.
 Pictured is Pearl, a CARC employee, finishing a Tailored Dog™ raincoat. Pearl learned to sew by hand at a young age; when she joined CARC’s workforce, she learned to operate a sewing machine as part of her training for employment.
Pearl gains a great deal of joy from sewing and, defying her legally-blind status, has proven to be a valued member of the CARC sewing team.
